What started with one classic recipe has grown into a wide range of snacks loved across generations.
Our products bring together authentic flavours, trusted quality, and a warmth that makes every bite memorable.

Today, our chiwda stands proud as a cultural icon of Pune.

The Beginning

It all began in 1930, when Laxminarayanji Data began selling snacks on a handcart on Rewadi railway station in Haryana.
The desire to run a business of his own, paired with determination, resulted in Laxminarayanji having a bold confrontation with a British officer, after which he had to leave his hometown.
His journey took him across Kabul, Kolkata, Rangoon and Mumbai- finally bringing him to Pune, where he married a Maharashtrian woman and built a future.

The Foundation

Babus Laxminarayan Best Chiwda since 1945 Babus Laxminarayan Best Chiwda since 1945

In 1945, Laxminarayanji got his handcart license, and by 1947, he set up his shop. He trademarked his chiwda in 1949, calling it Laxminarayan Best Chiwda- a name that would become a household favourite.

Passing the torch

After his passing in 1973, his son, Babulalji Data, just 17 then, took over. With the same values but a modern vision, he brought forward new processes of mechanization.

It was he who gave our packets their makeover in 1988- from our original khaki packets to the iconic red ones. In order to honour his legacy, and to keep his contribution close to our hearts, we renamed ourselves Babus Laxminarayan Best Chiwda and created a quality assuring mascot to go with our new look.
